The name Carelshaven refers to the harbor that used to lie on the Twickel Canal. The canal was constructed by Carel George, Count of Wassenaer Obdam, who was the resident of Twickel Castle at the time. Originally, Carelshaven began as a modest inn for boatmen at the Twickel harbor company, but over the centuries, it grew into a renowned hotel. The building has an authentic and stately appearance.
